National Youth Leadership Training

National Youth Leadership Training – Coming in 2025!

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members (ages 13-20 for members of the Scouting with a minimum rank of 1st Class, and 14-20 for Venturers) with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. NYLT is a six-day course delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Through activities, presentations, challenges, discussions, and audio-visual support, NYLT participants will be engaged in a unified approach to leadership that will give them the skill and confidence to lead well.  NYLT will be held at Custaloga Town Scout Reservation from June 28 – July 3, 2025.  This 6-day course will be hosted by French Creek Council.  To complete the course, scouts must attend all six days.  There will be 2 troops; one for each gender.

The week will start Saturday AFTERNOON with registration opening at 12pm and end before dinner Thursday, July 3rd.  This will allow families to enjoy the holiday with their scouts.

There is a pre-requisite for NYLT which is the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) or Crews (ILSC). The purpose of the ILS courses is to teach Scouts and Venturers with leadership positions about their new roles and how to most effectively reach success in that role. They are intended to help youth in leadership positions within their unit understand their responsibilities and to equip them with organizational and leadership skills to fulfill those responsibilities.
